Asters and Dogbane #4 - Hand-pulled Original Print

$60.00

About The Work:

Symbols of resilience, Wild Asters represent patience and grace, while Spreading Dogbane signifies stubborn endurance and survival in difficult environments.   I photographed these plants while walking at Northgate Trails (just before Dauphin, north of Manitoba Riding Mountain National Park) and I remember being mesmerized with the composition created by the Wild Asters poking their heads through the Spreading Dogbane in this one spot along the trail.  Wild Asters provide essential, late-season nectar for bees, migrating butterflies, and other pollinators. Spreading Dogbane offers an early-summer nectar source for pollinators and other beneficial insects. Its tough, fibrous inner bark has also been used to make cordage by indigenous people.  Both plants have traditional herbal and medicinal properties.

This varied-edition, hand-pulled linocut artwork was created by relief printing with a piece of linoleum on which I had hand-carved my design.  The carved plate was then inked and the image transferred onto paper by applying pressure to the back of the paper after it had been laid atop the inked plate. I then used lightfast Spectrum Inks to hand-colour the image.

Artwork Size: 4 × 6 inches matted to fit an 8x10 inch standard frame size.

This is a varied edition limited run of 20 works hand printed on acid-free fine art paper. Each work is matted and enclosed in a protective clear plastic sleeve. A Certificate Of Authenticity is also included.

Please note that colors may appear slightly different on screen than they do in person. Frames are not supplied.
