The Poetry of Painting

For me, the joy of creating includes participating in collaborative group projects.  I find collaborating with other creatives to be energizing and inspiring, and gives me and the other participants a world of opportunity to connect and expand our artforms in unexpected and rewarding ways.

Most recently I was invited to respond poetically to artworks created by talented Winnipeg Artists – Mavi Brake, Angela Lillico and Genevie Henderson.   I chose artworks by Mavi and Angela to respond to. Their artworks Limitless and The Mystery Beneath, along with the poems I wrote inspired by these works, are part of a group exhibition where a multitude of poets collaborated with these three immensely talented visual artists to enhance their Poetry of Painting collection of visual art works into a unique and exciting collaborative exhibition!

Show Description:

Join us for The Poetry of Painting, an extraordinary artistic experience that combines the visual splendor of paintings with the evocative power of poetry. This exhibition invites you to delve into a rich tapestry of narrative and emotion, where each artwork is paired with a poem, offering a contemplative journey through image and verse.

I’m quite thrilled that my poems The Mystery Beneath and Limitless are in this exhibition.  You too are invited to experience the magical synergy of art and poetry—come, connect, and be inspired!

Click on the link below listen to the audio of me reciting my poem The Mystery Beneath which I wrote in response to Angela Lillico’s stunning visual artwork of the same name, depicted above.

The Mystery Beneath is a visual artwork created by artist Angela Lillico. Its’ accompanying poem was written and recited by Jan Jenkins.

What a fun project to be a part of!

I hope 2025 has been kind to you so far and that you spend as much time as you can this year spreading kindness and doing what gives you joy.

Jan Jenkins

My joy is creating art from the patterns around me and the visual rhythms of line, shape, colour, contrast. I focus on artwork for smaller living spaces and wearable art for that unique look.
