On The Ground

These times of uncertainty and world conflict cause me great angst, and make me wish there was some thing I could do to help forge a more peaceful way of being in our world. Towards this end I find some comfort and purpose in creating my inspiring quote posters that promote peace and unity in diversity. And I keep busy with my creative pursuits - my art practice, connecting with other artists and my community through my art. I acknowledge the only control I have is over myself, my mindset, my actions and my words and so I try in my own way to inspire kindness, caring and mutual respect. Maybe my little acts will have a bit of a ripple effect...

More recently I've been enjoying a necklace-making marathon using the cords I have hand braided (using a 7-strand braiding method) over the last while on road trips or during zoom social sessions. 32 done, a few more to go. Two of these necklaces are extra special as they include a city license tag and a microchip tag from our two sweet dogs who crossed over. ❤

These will be for sale at the Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba's Gala of Gifts annual fundraiser, being held this Saturday Nov 25th from 10am to 6pm in Brandon. There will be live entertainment, food and activities, as well as artworks hand-crafted by 19 different artisans. I will have original art, limited edition prints, artcards, coffee mugs, silk scarves, and braided penny necklaces on display. A huge thank you in advance to my wonderful husband Brian for helping me haul everthing to and from this event. Proceeds from the sale of the above two necklaces will be donated to our local animal rescue.

I also currently have artwork exhibited in 3 group art shows:

The MHC Gallery in Winnipeg - Nov 10 through Dec 9th - The Drawn Together Collective's group show Stimulus / Response

Artists In Canada - Nov 23 through Dec 10th - AIC Members’ virtual group show and sale Regional Differences. Regional Differences speaks to the diversity of our artist members and the art they so caringly create. Does their location influence their art? Take a look and see for yourself.

The Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba in Brandon - Nov 30 through Dec 16th - 19th Annual Members' Show and Sale. Opening reception is 7pm Thursday, Nov 30 with a 1 pm lunch and look on Friday, Dec 1.

In conclusion, while I can’t do anything much to solve world conflict, I can count my personal blessings. I’ve been so fortunate to spend my time doing what I love and connecting with so many amazing people both in person and online - I wish you and yours all the very best.

My joy is creating art from the patterns around me and the visual rhythms of line, shape, colour, contrast. I focus on artwork for smaller living spaces and wearable art for that unique look.
